It is hard to believe that we are almost half way through the semester. Mid-Term Reports will be sent home soon (see dates below) and assignments are coming due. Students – make sure you are in regular contact with your teachers regarding your assignments and progress in your courses. See me in Room 104 if you require any support.

The SCDSB is offering FREE workshops for parents. Workshops include:

I am especially looking forward to the Resilience Workshop. The speaker, Dr. Michael Ungar, is renowned for his work in resiliency.

Students
After Hours Math and English Support
Students are invited to the library after school (2:50 to 3:50) to receive help in Math, English and other subjects as well. Register with Mrs. Hingley (Room 208), Mrs. Williamson (239 or the Math Office) or Mr. Davidson (main office).
Online Homework Help – MATH
All students in Grades 7-10 can access live interactive online math help to support student achievement in Mathematics. Homework help is an online tool for students to access real-time Math tutoring. The project is funded by the Ministry of Education, delivered by qualified Ontario Mathematics teachers and is without cost. Students can register for the program by completing the online registration form at the Homework Help website http://homeworkhelp.ilc.org . Please note that student require their Ontario Education Number (OEN) to register. Their OEN is located on the Progress Report and Report Cards.
E=MC2 at Queen’s University
Every year, several Barrie North students who are academically advanced or gifted attend the E=MC2 enrichment program at Queen’s. Students spend one week in May on campus, participating in mini-university courses at an advanced level. This program offers a glimpse into the campus experience – students eat in the cafeterias, stay (very well supervised!) in residence and participate in extra-curricular programs.

SHAD
Every summer, 600 of the best and brightest students from across Canada attend a four week program on university campuses. The SHAD program focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related topics. Students are provided with large, complex issues and work as a team to find innovate approaches to solving the assigned problems. Through lectures, workshops and activities, students learn new ways of understanding the world around them.
