Interim Progress Reports…

…were handed out today! Accompanying the reports is a parent-teacher interview form. If you have questions about parent-teacher night, can’t make it, or need additional time to meet please contact teachers directly via phone or email.

Terry Fox Bowl

This fundraising event for the Terry Fox Foundation will take place at Georgian College on Wednesday, October 18th. Students can purchase a ticket for $5.00 to watch Barrie North’s football teams take on Innisdale. Students can pick up a permission form and pay their ticket fee in the main foyer during lunch hours over the next week.

P.A. Day

Friday, October 20th is a P.A. Day. Students do not attend school on this day.

Take Your Kid To Work Day

TYKTW Day takes place on November 1st. All Grade 9 students are expected to participate in this day-long event. Details will be sent home by our Co-op department in the near future.

Community Feasts

The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is hosting community feasts across the county. The events are intended to welcome Indigenous students and their families into schools and provide information about available SCDSB activities and programs.

Attendees will receive a catered dinner and be eligible for door prizes, in addition to the information session. Feasts are taking place at:

• Cundles Heights Public School
   60 Cundles Road East, Barrie
   October 12   4-7 p.m.

• Ferndale Woods Elementary School
   170 Ferndale Drive South, Barrie
   October 18    4-7 p.m.

• Cameron Street Public School
   575 Cameron Street, Collingwood
   October 25    4-7 p.m.

• Bradford District High School
   70 Professor Day Drive, Bradford
   November 8   4-7 p.m.

All events are free to attend. No advance registration is required.

House Colours and Related Activities

Gain points for your House Colour team by participating in Intramurals at lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays or by signing up for the Terry Fox Bowl buy-in at lunch in the main foyer. Tickets are $5.00

Take Me Outside Day

Like to hike and spend time outside? Sign up for the Take Me Outside Day Fall Hike – it’s only 2 weeks away. Permission forms are now available from Room 181. Join staff and students for a beautiful fall hike around Hardy Lake amongst the beautiful Muskoka forest. This outdoor day is open to all students. Don’t be disappointed – get your forms in as soon as possible! New Paddlers and Hikers are welcome to join the Canoe and Kayak club on this adventure.

Student Cards and Activity Fee Stickers

All students should now have their student cards. These are free for all students. Students are encouraged to purchase the BNC Activity Sticker for their card. At a cost of $10, these stickers allow you free access or reduced fees to dances buy-ins, and other activities. Stickers can be purchased at the SAC office in the main foyer at lunch.

Yearbooks

Students can pre-order the 2017-2018 yearbook by seeing Mr. Porter or by paying online using School Cash (see the main office for details if you have not signed up for this with the SCDSB). Hardcover books are $45 and softcovers are available for $35.

College Applications

OntarioColleges.ca is now open for applications. Need to learn more about what college programs are right for you? Attend the College Information program that provides an overview of all colleges at Georgian College on Friday, October 27th between 10am and 11:30am. Speak to Guidance staff to learn more.

University Info

Visit the University Information Program to learn more about the university application process and what programs are offered where on Wednesday, October 18th at Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School in Angus (12-2 PM). Can’t make this event? Speak to Guidance to learn more.

After Hours Homework Help

After Hours Homework Help returns on Monday, October 16th and runs from 2:30 until 4:00pm in Room 156. Students can access this opportunity throughout the semester, however, it is appreciated if they complete the one-time sign-up process in Student Success (156) or Guidance (112) ASAP. This helps to ensure funding for the program continues!

Model Parliament

The Legislative Assembly of Ontario is holding its three-day Model Parliament Program for Ontario students in grades 10 to 12 from February 21-23, 2018. This program offers civic-minded students a unique opportunity to experience the legislature first-hand. The application deadline is October 30th. We have had North students attend this program in past years. They have thoroughly enjoyed it and have learned a lot from the experience.

Youth Arts Program at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario

The Youth Arts Program at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario invites youth aged 12-18 to display their artwork in the Legislative Building in Toronto. Artwork can include a variety of media including photography; sculptures; ceramics and pottery; drawings in ink, pencil, and charcoal; acrylic, oil, and watercolour paintings.
