AFTER HOURS MATH & ENGLISH SUPPORT (AHME)

Beginning February 29th, students can access support for Math, English, and most other subjects in the Library after school. The sessions will run from 2:45 to 4:15 Monday to Thursday. Even if you plan to attend even once this semester, it is requested that you pick up a form in the main office to formally register for the program. Barrie North teachers provide the support to students.

ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL LITERACY TEST (OSSLT)

Grade 10 students will be writing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) on the morning of Thursday, March 31, 2016. Students not writing the test will be picked up at their regular bus stops 3½ hours later than their regularly scheduled pick-up time. Students and parents can learn about the test and look at sample questions by following the links at the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) website: www.eqao.com.

FREE OSSLT PREP SESSIONS

All Grade 10 students are invited to attend any or all of the OSSLT Preparation Sessions (TIPS), taking place in February and March.

Sessions will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays until March 29th. They will take place in Room 208 from 2:50pm until 3:50pm. Healthy snacks are provided.

Anyone writing the OSSLT this year is welcome to attend!

CANADIAN MATH KANGAROO CONTEST

This international multiple choice math contest aims to challenge participants and show them just how fun math can be! Online training is provided and the cost to enter is only $17 (fee waivers are available!). Our region’s contest is based out of Orillia and will take place on March 20th at Lakehead University Orillia Campus.

Registration is online and is open until March 7th. The schedule for the online training is available on the registration website. There is a fee of $10 to participate in the training.

COURSE SELECTIONS FOR THE 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR

Students have begun selecting their courses for next year. Please speak to your daughter or son about class choices and ensure, especially as they move into Grade 11 and 12, that their course selections are the appropriate pre-requisites for the courses needed to get into their post-secondary program of choice.

Students can also access the MyBlueprint program online to help them determine their appropriate academic pathway. If you would like support with this process or have questions about post-secondary options, please stop in to Room 104 and speak with Mrs. Reesor.

MATH LEAGUE AND MATH CONTESTS

The Barrie North Math League will meet this Friday February 19th.

If you are interested in writing the Grade 9 (Pascal), 10 (Cayley) and 11 (Fermat) Waterloo Math contests, please see Mrs. MacPhail in Room 234. The contests will take place during period 1 on February 24.
