Report Cards and Parent Teacher Night
Report cards will be sent home on October 14th and Parent-Teacher interviews will be conducted on October 21st from 6pm to 8pm.
Scholarship Information Presentation
Learn how to write effective scholarship applications on October 8th at Barrie North. This evening presentation begins at 7pm. Information shared at this event is relevant to students from ALL grades, as it is important to begin thinking about what a student needs in his/her learning portfolio as early as grade 9.
Barrie North Math League
Love Math? You can still join the Barrie North Math League, which will meet tomorrow in Room 234 at 11am. The League will discuss next month’s math competition, which takes place on October 13th and is 30 minutes in length. Head over to Room 234 tomorrow at lunch or see Mrs. MacPhail for more info.
SHAD
Are you a creative and driven student who is interested in and excels in activities related to science, technology, engineering or math? Consider applying to SHAD. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to learn and study with professionals at a month-long summer program at one of several Canadian host universities. EDUTRAVEL – Earn your course credits by travelling
Edutravel offers some amazing opportunities to travel and earn credits during the summer and march break. If you are able, completing your Civics and Careers credit in Ottawa/Montreal/NYC in March Break or July is a fantastic opportunity and many North students have taken advantage of this option.

Legislative Assembly of Ontario offering Model Parliament Program for students in Grades 10 to 12
Students in Grade 10 to 12 who are interested in current events and provincial issues should consider applying to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario Model Parliament. This program will bring together 107 students from across Canada for a three day Model Parliament (Feb 24-26, 2016) in Toronto. On top of the parliament simulation, activities include meeting members of Parliament, learning about the history of the provincial legislature and the legislative process through workshops and presentations.
Students interested in this opportunity can submit an application here. The deadline for applications is October 30th.
Speakers Award for Youth Writers
Calling all young writers! The Speaker’s Award for Youth Writers invites Ontario youth in grades 7-12 to submit their short stories and personal essays to this writing contest. Original fiction and non-fiction submissions are welcome, and a winner from each of the following three grade categories will be chosen:
Grades 7-8, Grades 9-10, and Grades 11-12.
Online applications will be accepted from September 30th through November 6th, 2015.
