Pre-Apprenticeship Program
The Alliston Learning Centre is offering an Assistant Cook Pre-Apprenticeship Program, in partnership with FOCUS Alliston and Georgian College, for 18-to-29 year olds looking for a new career.
This tuition-free, 30 week course begins on March 16 and runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Busing is provided and space is limited.
The Assistant Cook Pre-Apprenticeship Program provides participants with:
- Academic upgrading
- Level 1 apprenticeship training
- On-the-job training
- A paid job placement
This program is funded by the Government of Ontario. The Alliston Learning Centre is located at 46 Wellington St. W., Unit 3.

Driver’s Education
SCDSB’s Driver Education program, for teens and adults who currently have their G1, includes 20 hours of in-class instruction, 10 hours of independent work and 10 hours of individual in-car instruction. The program meets all Ministry of Transportation requirements and is a Ministry Approved Course Provider.
There are sessions during March Break (March 16 to 20) at the Learning Centres in Alliston, Barrie and Collingwood. The cost is $600 plus HST.

Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest
This international multiple choice math contest aims to challenge participants and show them just how fun math can be! With over 51 countries participating and over 6,000,000 students from Grade 1 to Grade 12 involved, this is a contest you do not want to miss. Online training is provided and the cost to enter is only $17 (fee waivers are available!). Our region’s contest is based out of Orillia and will take place on Sunday, March 29th between 11am and 3pm at Lakehead University Orillia Campus (Simcoe Hall).
Registration is online and is open until March 15th. The schedule for the online training is available on the registration website. There is a fee of $10 to participate in the training.
